We are at the beginning of an exciting adventure twinning Southwell in Nottinghamshire UK with Sarzana in Liguria, Italy. At present, in Southwell, we have a committee which became substantive on October 1st, 2014 when we had the first AGM coupled with a very successful Italian Cheese and Wine Party. Almost 80 people came to the event and many of them joined the twinning association.

We hope that this will be a broad community venture involving many groups and individuals and will promote friendship and understanding between our two towns and their surrounding areas. In addition we hope that this will be a boost for businesses and tourism for both towns.

This venture arose from our Cafe Conversation group- Cafe Italiano that meets every Thursday morning 10-12 in Caffe Alfresco on Queen Street in Southwell. We draw people from a wide area Sheffield being the furthest away! Italian twinnings are thin on the ground in the UK so we will happily accept members from Southwell, Nottingham, Newark & surrounding villages.

You don’t have to be fluent or even need to be able to speak Italian to join! Just have an interest in Italy and establishing good relationships with our European neighbours.
